NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is looking for a Principal Technician (IaaS Administrator) to support the migration, adaptation, operation, maintenance and tuning for all SAN inside the classified/unclassified NATO/RS networks and new upcoming networks and to maintain the hosting infrastructure hardware and implement changes as required to fix detected errors.

This post is assigned to the Core Enterprise Services (CES) Service Line, whose mission is to provide through the Director of Infrastructure Services, the Director of Demand Management and under the guidance of the Director of Service Strategy, full life-cycle services and products to sponsors through successful completion of contracted projects.
 
Under the direction of Section Head (Hosting Services)you will perform duties such as the following:
  • Support the migration, adaptation, operation, maintenance and tuning for all SAN inside the classified/unclassified NATO/RS networks and new upcoming networks;
  • Administration of AMN Training and Staging (EUPOP)hosting infrastructure;
  • Maintain the hosting infrastructure hardware and implement changes as required to fix detected errors;
  • Identifies operational problems and contributes to their resolution;
  • Performs analysis and implementation of user requirements;
  • Implements disaster recovery procedures to ensure data integrity;
  • Server and client platform problem resolution;
  • Implements & tests new hardware/software releases;
  • Contributes to the development of Standard Operating Procedures for routine system administration tasks;
  • Uses system management software and tools to collect agreed performance statistics
  • Carries out agreed system software maintenance tasks;
  • Develops & maintains Standard Operating Procedures for routine system administration tasks;
  • Perform any other duty may be required.
Person specification
Qualifications required:
You will need to have Vocational training at a higher level in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience, with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
 
It is desirable for you if you hold:
  • Advanced/Graduate degree in a field related to the function of the post;
  • Microsoft Windows Server certifications (MCSA, MCSE);
  • VMware Certification (VCA, VCP). 
Experience required:

 

You will be required to prove at least 8 years of relevant experience.
 
In addition, you will need to demonstrate:
  • Sound practical experience in the design, development, implementation, testing and maintenance of configuration and change management toolsets;
  • Experience in all Lifecycle aspects of Information Systems to achieve effective system development and deployment;
  • Knowledge of architectural design as applied to computer systems;
  • Experience in software engineering related to configuration, change, and event and patch management systems;
  • Broad and sound technical knowledge and experience in distributed Information Systems as they are applied to the modern management information and Command and Control Information Systems;
  • Minimum 3 years recent practical experience as a system administrator of Virtual Infrastructure (VMware, Hyper-V);
  • Broad and sound technical knowledge of hardware administration, such as servers, blade systems;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite and advanced knowledge of eMail Clients/Web Browsers.

 

It is highly desirable for you to demonstrate:
  • At least 2 year of experience in implementation, support and maintenance of VMware virtualization systems;
  • Experience with administrative scripting languages such as PowerShell, PowerCLI;
  • Practical knowledge of network protocols and network management technology;
  • Knowledge of standard industry virtualization and cloud infrastructure concepts;
  • Practical knowledge of SAN/NAS technology in enterprise environments.

Language skills:
A thorough knowledge of one of the two NATO languages, both written and spoken, is essential and some knowledge of the other is desirable. NOTE: Most of the work of the NCI Agency is conducted in the English language.
 
Travel:
Business travel to NATO and national (NATO and non-NATO) facilities as well as travel between NCI Agency locations. May be required to undertake duty travel to operational theatres inside and outside NATO boundaries.
 
Contract
NCI Agency normally offers contracts of employment of a definite duration, not exceeding three years. Contracts may be for less than three years as required to support short-term projects, meet uncertainty with respect to the business outlook, staff performance and other factors.
 
Definite duration contracts may be extended for further periods. When extending contracts, the following is taken into consideration:
  • Renewal is in the interest of the Agency.
  • Staff member's desire to remain with the Agency.
  • The financial situation provides sufficient funding for the post held.
  • The skills, competencies and behaviours, potential and work experience of the staff, versus the requirements of the Agency's work and/or availability of funding.
  • Staff member has served the Agency with performance to the required standard as defined by the Agency,
  • Staff member's deployability to operational theatre.
Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.
 
The first six months of definite duration contracts are a probationary period. During this period the staff member's work is assessed to ensure that he/she has the ability to carry out the duties of the post. At or before the end of the probationary period, the staff member will be notified in writing that the appointment is confirmed or terminated or, in exceptional cases, that the probationary period is extended.
