The NCI Agency is currently seeking an Engineer (System Administration) to work within the AirC2 Programme Office and Services area, within their Engineering Branch - Engineering Enabling Section (EES) based in Glons, Belgium. The Engineer (System Administration) will be working to support system engineering and test environments, designing and implementing new engineering / test environments, maintaining virtual servers and environments and working as an SME on Operating Systems as part of a project or product team.

Role Requirements

The Air C2 Programme Office and Service (AirC2 PO&S) is the procurement and implementation body of the NCI Agency, charged with the effective planning, execution, delivery into service, evolution and through-life logistic support of NATO’s and assigned national AirC2 systems.

The Engineering Branch (ENB) manages, controls, guides and orchestrates all technical aspects of all AirC2-related projects throughout their lifecycle. The Engineering Enabling Section (EES) manages, controls guides and orchestrates all activities of engineering and maintenance resources allocated for Internal CIS support, Documentation and Training.

As the Engineer (System Administration), and under the direction of the Chief Engineering Enabling Section, you will be expected to:

  • Provide enterprise administration support to AirC2 PO&S Engineering Branch System Engineering and System Test Environments.
    • Co-operate with the System Engineering Section - In-Service Support (SYS-ISS) and Software Engineering Section – In Service Support (SES-ISS) to ensure that the required target environment are correctly prepared and configured.
      • Support SYS-ISS and SES-ISS in specifying, designing and implementing new engineering and test environments and enhancements to existing.
        • Install and configure the software, data packages and any off-the-shelf components in their target system.
          • Maintain servers and virtual environment based on VMware and Hyper-V.
            • Participate as an Operating System (OS) SME in project milestone of IT projects
              • Provide training on related OS technology to project teams.
                • Participate in Engineering Enabling Section daily activities for SL2 support for Internal CIS.
                  • When the incumbent is assigned to support a project/product he/she reports also to the respective leader on related matters.
                    • Liaise with the Customer Service Desk (CSD) for problem resolution and provide second-line support as required.
                      • Perform other duties as may be required.

                      The Engineer (System Administration) is responsible for frequent internal co-ordination with project teams and Product Managers. He/she might infrequently participate, under the lead of the Product Managers in meetings, committees and workshops with NATO bodies, Nations and industries to provide data engineering expertise.

                      You may be required to travel for business purposes to NATO, national (NATO and non-NATO) and some Operational facilities (Both Inside and Outside of NATO boundaries). As well as this frequent travel between the NCIA offices may also be required.

                      Qualifications Required

                      The Successful candidate will hold a university degree in a technical subject with substantial Information Technology (IT) preferably equivalent to a master's degree and supplemented by relevant postgraduate qualifications or Information Technology certifications.
                      Exceptionally, the lack of a university/college degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate's particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to NCI Agency.


                      Experience Required

                      The ideal candidate will be required to hold, as a minimum, 2 years of relevant experience, with recent experience in the installation, administration and maintenance of UNIX like (i.e. Solaris, Linux) systems in a network environment and up-to-date knowledge of UNIX operating systems, computer system architectures, client/server, LAN/WAN and network concepts.

                      In addition it would be considered highly desirable if you can demonstrate up to date knowledge and practical experience in:

                      • Administering networked systems for different operating systems and their integration.
                        • IT asset tracking and configuration control tools.
                          • System performance measurement and evaluation.
                            • Working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements;
                              • Knowledge of NATO responsibilities and organization, including ACO and ACT;
                                • Training in UNIX or Solaris Administration.
                                  • Knowledge or training in Virtualisation (e.g. VM Ware or Hyper-V)

                                          Languages

                                          Most of the work of the NCI Agency is conducted in the English language, and therefore a thorough knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is essential and some knowledge of French is desirable.
