1.      Organizational Context

 

a.     Organizational Setting

 

The post is located in the Office of the Director General.

 

b.    Purpose Statement

 

WIPO's Business Continuity Management Strategy (BCMS) ensures that staff and other critical assets can be protected from an adverse event to the extent possible.  The BCMS provides policy and guidance to ensure the capabilities needed to continue crucial operational processes are sufficiently resilient, as well as for WIPO crisis and emergency management.  The incumbent is responsible for driving the further development and coordination of WIPO's contingency planning capabilities and Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity (DR/BC) plans with a view to mitigating or minimizing the impact of disruptions on WIPO's critical business operations.

 

c.    Reporting Lines

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Assistant Director General and Chief of Staff.

 

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

 

a.   Coordinate and assist in the development of and access to Business Continuity Plans and Procedures for all critical and critical supporting functions.  Ensure that the business areas undertake gap analyses following business or technological changes, and develop and update their continuity plans and procedures accordingly.

 

b.   Liaise with responsible business units on the identification, storage and accessibility of vital information and assets, in accordance with the requirements determined by those business areas.

 

c.   Ensure that staff with specific crisis and emergency or continuity responsibilities are adequately aware of their roles.  Coordinate regular updates and relevant training exercises, and arrange regular update and informational briefings for all staff via presentations and new staff induction sessions.

 

d.   Liaise with the responsible business managers to ensure regular review of their business impact analyses, as well as testing of their business continuity plans on an annual basis or as the need arises.

 

e.   Represent the Organization at resilience/crisis and emergency/continuity interagency or other working groups.

 

f.    Perform other related duties as required.

 

3.      Requirements

 

Education

Essential

Advanced university degree in Information Technology Management, Change Management, Business Administration or related field.

 

 

Experience

Essential

At least 12 years of progressively responsible professional work experience, including extensive experience in business continuity/disaster recovery activities or large-scale management of IT-related projects.

 

Desirable

Proven experience of managing a major Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery project.

Experience with advanced application software including project management software application tools and applications.

 

 

Language

Essential

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English or French.

 

Desirable

Knowledge of the other language (English or French).  Knowledge of other UN languages.

5.         Information

 

Mobility:  WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities, office or duty station of the Organization.  Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions and/or to another duty station.

 

Annual salary:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  The post adjustment (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change without notice in accordance with the rates as set within the UN Common System for salaries and allowances.  The figures quoted below are based on the February 2018 rate of 81.6%

* Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.  No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.
