DUTY LOCATION: WESEL, Germany

Post Context

1st NATO Signal Battalion provides communication and information system facilities and services for deployed NATO headquarters. COMMAND GROUP provides communication and information system facilities and services for deployed NATO headquarters. Office of the Commander executes command authority over the 1st NSB. The incumbent is the principal technical advisor to the NSB Commander for all Core Information System (Core IS) services and projects.

Duties:

Manages and supports the Deployed Communication Information Systems (DCIS) capabilities in coordination with NCISG HQ.

Applies configuration management to all assigned Core IS hardware and software components of the DCIS.

On behalf of NSB Commander, coordinates engineering analysis design and implementation of Core IS to include servers, workstations, and the Local Area Network (LAN).

Performs analysis of Core IS requirements and implementation of technical solutions.

Maintains contacts with Level 3 support personnel in NCI Agency Forward Support Point (FSP) located in Wesel (DEU).

Manages the Core IS and Functional Area Services (FAS) training plans within the Battalion to meet the current policy requirements and certification paths.

Capture Core IS and FAS Lessons Identified and introduce a Continuous Improvement Plan according to the established NCISG Lessons Learnt Policy.

Ensure that approved IT Service Management processes and procedures are applied across the NSB Area of Responsibility.

 

Travel requirement / contract:

The Engineer (Information Systems Administration) may be required to undertake deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or TDY (duty travel) assignments, both within and without NATO boundaries. Such operational deployment may be up to a total 6 months (uninterrupted or in shorter periods) in any period of 18 months and may be on short notice.

Acceptance of an employment contract linked to this post constitutes agreement to deploy. The work is normally performed in a typical Office environment. Normal Working Conditions apply. The risk of injury is categorised as: No risk / risk might increase when deployed.

 

 

The successful candidate has the following qualifications

Professional Education  

ü  University Degree in information technology, electronics, computer science, management or related discipline plus a minimum of 2 years related experience.

ü  OR Higher Secondary Education and completed Advanced Vocational education/training in that discipline plus a minimum of 4 years related professional experience.

ü  Recognized professional certification in Microsoft; MCSA/MCP; ITIL Intermediate.

ü  Very Good Command of English.

Professional Experience in

ü  Performing IT policy/planning.

ü  System Administration preferably Windows operating systems.

ü  Operation and administration of a large scale computer network.

ü  Diagnosing deficiencies in Core IS and troubleshooting LAN/peripheral devices.

ü  Applying and technical understanding of CIS security principles.

Desirable qualifications/experiences are:

ü  Experience in all Lifecycle aspects of IS.

ü  Knowledge of System Analysis principles to direct and guide IS development.

ü  Broad and sound technical knowledge and experience in distributed IS.

ü  Detailed knowledge of architectural design as applied to computer systems.

ü  Sound technical knowledge on LAN and firewalls.

ü  Practical experience on Mgmt., Operation, routine maintenance procedures and Cryptographic systems of tactical communications systems supporting deployed HQ.

ü  Knowledge of Mobile IS.

Desired certificates are:

ü  SANS Information Assurance (GSLC/CISSP)

ü  Microsoft (MCSE)

ü  LAN/Firewalls (CCNP/PCNSE)

ü  Prince 2 Practioner

ü  Information Assurance (GIAC/CISSP)

ü  Networking / Firewalls (CCNA/ACE).
