BACKGROUND:

 

The NAEW&C Force is a unique organization operating as a multi-national fully integrated Air Force, with responsibilities of a 'Sending State' and 'Force Provider'.

The Systems & Servers Section provides efficient installation, administration and maintenance of assigned IT systems (typically core server hardware and software) in support of the E-3A Component's mission by operating WIN and UNIX development and production systems, and provides and supports deployable systems.

The incumbent installs, configures, administers, maintains and manages assigned IT/CIS  Systems (mainly Servers, core services and related auxiliaries) through their life-cycle, and therefore contributes significantly to the proper operation of the Component AIS core services. As such, the Engineer maintains contacts to the customers and senior users with regards to the implementation of change requirements, to industry firms and government entities with regard to IT/CIS hardware and operating systems, and related engineering change packages.

 

THE ROLE:

  • Advising and providing input for the development and maintenance of the product related technical requirements and the product architecture;
  • Executing the technical analysis of emerging user requirements with regard to the assigned products and coordinating with other internal or outsourced engineering sections;
  • Executing the evaluation of changes and the implementation of provided change packages in accordance with the long-term product evolution plans;
  • Supporting assigned projects executed in the Branch that implement baselines for the assigned products;
  • Coordinating product related issues with external organizations and industry partners;
  • Providing the direct interface with Squadron customers, tasking authorities and boards, and external engineering partners in respect to the assigned products;
  • Maintaining a high level of expertise in the assigned technical areas and staying abreast of system engineering best practices;
  • Ensuring that assigned IT/CIS Systems are adequately protected according to NATO and E-3A Component security directives, to include a viable disaster recovery capability;
  • Providing technical guidance for user account administration, system software and data configuration management, quality assurance of the technical system (product) and for the maintenance of (in-house and outsourced) support processes and their technical documentation;
  • Preparing evaluations (Proposed Technical Solutions) of System Requests (Statements of Need) and presenting and championing the proposed technical solutions in the boarding process, in coordination with the senior engineer;
  • Monitoring and reporting on IT/CIS system maintenance efforts and system operations capabilities and constraints;
  • Executing routine and contingency support for IT/CIS system installation and maintenance efforts at the Component, at FOBs/FOL, and at other deployed locations;
  • Executing essential operational support to all NAEW&C organizations, including, when needed, the provision of support for contingency operations on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis, for an extended timeframe;
  • Taking part in the IT/CIS flight or provides support for Operations and Exercise, Audits, Inspections and Technical Support Visits (TSVs) to the FOBs/FOL and other deployed locations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • University Degree and 2 years function related experience, or a Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience;
  • The work, both oral and written, in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole, is conducted mainly in English and sufficient proficiency is therefore essential;
  • Advanced/Working Knowledge of Standard Automatic Data Processing (ADP) programmes is required.

THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE:

  • Previous NATO assignment;
  • Experience working in an international/military environment;
  • Experience working with NATO Agencies, Commands and Committees;
  • Experience in working with contractor firms in system administration matters;
  • Experience in providing configuration control of software and data in client-server environments;
  • Experience in conducting presentations before international audiences;
  • Recent experience in system administration in both, UNIX and WINDOWS LAN/WAN;
  • Experience with system administration for storage area networks, virtualized environments, and/or enterprise server machines;
  • Experience with NAEW&C airborne early warning system, other air defence systems, or electronic warfare;
  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in IT/CIS related fields;
  • Member of recognized professional institution or body/Chartered Engineer;
  • Qualified advanced training as system administrator for Windows server/UNIX server networks with commonly recognized certification;
  • Qualified advanced training for Sun Solaris system software;
  • Knowledge of the HQ`s host nation language.

 

CONTRACT:

 

Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.

 

Newly recruited staff will be initially offered a definite duration contract of two years. The definite duration contract may be extended for another period of one year. Thereafter, an indefinite duration contract might be offered.
