  1. Apple posted a new product called "Boot Camp" Beta which will come standard with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). The new software allows users to dual-boot Mac OS X and Windows XP on the new Intel Macs. More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today. Windows XP is not included, so users will have to purchase it seperately. Current users need the latest version of Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and the latest firmware updates. There has been a lot of publicity surrounding the successful efforts in getting Windows to boot on Intel Macs by users, however, this represents the first time Apple has officially supported the option. Apple's previous stance has been one of indifference... in that they did not intend to facilitate this ability but would also not stand in the way. Apple appears to be embracing the concept now with an official solution. As previously mentioned, many feel that the ability to also boot Windows on Apple's latest Intel Macs will facilitate many users to switch to the Mac platform. Unlike previous solutions, it appears that Apple is providing Windows drivers for their Intel Mac hardware. This means, accelerated graphics and support for networking etc.. under Windows XP. source: http://www.macrumors.com/
  2. Intel Mac Firmware Update Brings BIOS Support Apple surprised everyone today when they introduced Boot Camp -- drivers and instructions on how to boot Windows XP on the new Intel Macs. Along with Boot Camp, Apple has posted firmware updates to all their Intel Macs today. These firmware updates provide EFI with BIOS support, allowing all Intel Macs to boot operating systems such as Windows XP and Linux. This should also allow the Intel Macs to boot upcoming operating systems, such as Windows Vista. The Boot Camp CD which was posted simply provides needed Mac-specific drivers for full support of Windows XP on the Intel Macs. source: http://www.macrumors.com/

  5. Microsoft launched a website (Origami Project) which offers a short teaser product intro which simply promises more information on March 2, 2006. Details of the upcoming product, however, has revealed a multi-function wireless tablet described as follows: "According to at least one report, Bill Mitchell, Corporate Vice President of the Mobile Platform Division, showed a slide that outlined specs for the new PC category, including that it be wearable, always on, no larger than 10-inches, connected through 3G networks, pen-based, and have a suggested retail price of $500 or less. … One notable spec that could differentiate this one: Microsoft is apparently insisting that this run the full version of Windows." http://www.origamiproject.com/1/
  6. t's been a while since a USB toy excited us as much as these compressed-air darts — available through Marks & Spencer, of all places, for a mere £19.50 ($33.43). The USB-powered darts come in a set of three, are, uh, Mac and PC-compatible, and can be controlled via a mouse. We're already making plans to figure out how to control a set over VNC so we can deploy these against the dude in the next cube while we're a safe distance away. He'll never know what hit him.
  7. SeattlePI.com reports on Bill Gates' question and answer session with high school students in the Seattle area on Friday. One student asked Bill Gates if Microsoft was going develop an MP3 player to compete against the iPod. Gates admitted that Apple had done a "fantastic job" with the iPod, and that Microsoft had been working with their partners on how they can can make less expensive devices with better connectivity and photo/video support. Gates also said: "I don't think what's out in the market today is the final answer. But again, it just shows the magic of software. Apple did a very good job on iTunes, did the user-interface design right. That means we'll have to match all that good work and do something even better." Gates promised that we can expect "some pretty hot products coming out over the next couple of years." The article points out that Apple's end-to-end user experience control is an advantage over Microsoft which relies on 3rd party PC manufacturers and MP3 manufacturers. Steve Jobs had previously commented on the lack of a iPod killer products and felt that "Microsoft is going to have to get into the hardware business of making MP3 players."
