NCI Agency CIS Support Unit (CSU) Sigonella, located in Sigonella, Italy, enables end-to-end CIS services as it installs, operates, maintains and supports the standardized range of CIS capabilities of the Agency for the customer during peacetime, crisis and war throughout its allocated Area of Responsibility (AOR) and as otherwise directed. Role Responsibilities Under the direction of the Branch Head Service Operations and Support the post-holder will perform duties such as the following: Engineer overall responsible for the delivery of Applications, Functional Services, and Server and Database Management services, to meet customer requirements in the AOR. Responsible for the installation, operation, management and maintenance of assigned Functional Systems, Servers, Databases and other Applications. Stays abreast of latest developments in these areas. Responsible for applications and data integrity. Supports IT Service Continuity Management (ITSCM), Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans. Person Specification Qualifications Required We are looking for candidates holding a university degree, preferably equivalent to a Master of Science (MSc) degree at a nationally recognised/ certified University in a related discipline (Information Technology (IT)); Exceptionally, the lack of a university/college degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate’s particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to NCI Agency; that is, at least 10 years extensive and progressive expertise in the duties related to the function of the post; It is also required to have a formal training in database administration. Experience Required In addition to a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience to the post, you will need to prove: A minimum of 2 years experience in database operations. General background in engineering and maintenance of Communications and Information Systems (CIS) including pertinent training and practical experience. Demonstrable evidence in maintaining knowledge of advances in Information System (IS) engineering and Service Management. Knowledge of SQL Scripting and common database packages as well as Network Operating Systems. Experience in system administration of common operating systems. POST CONTEXT The Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) is an executive body of the Science and Technology Organization (STO) and is governed by the provisions of the STO Charter. Within the framework of the STO in-house delivery business model, the CMRE organizes and conducts scientific research and technology development, centred on the maritime domain, delivering innovative and field-tested S&T solutions to address defence and security needs of the Alliance. The Engineering & Information Technology Division (EITD) is essential to delivering the Centre’s Programme of Work, complementing and supporting the other main organizational element, the Research Department (RD). The EITD addresses the engineering and technological requirements of the Centre's research activity, by designing, developing, constructing, testing, maintaining, repairing and calibrating acoustical, oceanographic, electronic and mechanical assemblies, especially prototypes, including hardware and software information technology (IT) equipment and applications. A primary activity for the EITD in the recent years has been the development and operation of a variety of unmanned underwater or surface vehicles. The Scientific CIS section supports the execution of the Programme of Work through the conception, design, development and construction of state of the art technologies in computing, networking and modelling & simulation (M&S), ensuring interoperability, security and compliance with relevant NATO policies and regulations. This includes: planning, conducting and evaluating technical projects and experiences in related fields, as required by the Programme of Work; organizing the delivery of strategic elements required for Centre work, such as scientific data storage and processing capabilities, interconnection with public and private national/NATO networks, integration of laboratories, geospatial information systems, remote sensing capabilities, M&S and visualization capabilities; developing and monitoring the execution of Service Level Agreements (SLA) with service providers.; 1.2 MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES Under the management of the Scientific CIS Head, the incumbent will perform duties such as the following: Contribute to the operation of the CMRE Service Desk, in alignment with best practices such as ITIL: Act as the routine contact point for the CMRE service desk, receiving and handling requests for support using the IT service desk system, ensuring that all customers’ requests are treated efficiently and in appropriate manner Respond to a broad range of service requests for support by providing information to fulfil requests or to enable resolution following a systematic approach. Under the direction of the Service Owner, the NCI Service Area supplies the capabilities, skills and competencies required for full life-cycle support of the static CIS infrastructure services of within NATO. The incumbent of this post is responsible for the service management team responsible for delivering static CIS infrastructure services to the NATO community. Under the direction of the Internal CIS Cell Head, but largely under own initiative, you will perform duties pertaining to the delivery of CIS services to internal NCI Agency customers, in particular for the Wi-Fi and VPN services. The Wi-Fi Engineer will play a key role in the Internal CIS team of NSII to deliver Wi-Fi services to NSII’s customers.
