Η διαδικασία αυτή όταν 
γίνεται
μεταφέρει τις χαρακτηρισμένες ως dirty
pages από την μνήμη (buffer cache) στο δίσκο (data file(s)) και αλλάζει στο
header τους το status από dirty σε clean. Δεν
αδείαζει-καθαρίζει την buffer cache από αυτές.
