Description:

The NCI Agency was formed in 2012 with the 24/7 mission of connecting the Alliance by, defending its networks, providing critical CIS capabilities to NATO, and the top priority of supporting NATO operations. We offer our interns hands-on experience in all areas of study including engineering, human resources, communications, and computer science.

As an intern, you’ll have the chance to learn from subject matter experts, and the opportunity to work on projects that are integral to the operation of the Alliance.

With this opportunity we are offering an internship in The Hague for the area of Programming within Directorate Applications Services, C2 Service Line.

Internship description

You will develop an XMPP·based solution prototype for extending operational chat networks into mobile command posts via IP-over-Radio by leveraging existing prototypes and support the programming, testing and maintenance of the Java-based XMPP projects within the C2 SL.

Who are we looking for?

You will be currently studying towards a university-level degree in software development, Informatics, computer science or a closely related engineering field or be recent university graduate of one of those disciplines (degree obtained within the last 12 months).

You will have knowledge in the following areas:

##Java or Javascript programming language (Including object-oriented programming). This includes detailed knowledge of the J2SE 1.6, 1.7 and 1.8 platforms and its main packages or Java/Javascript Programmer certificate received in the last 12 months is acceptable for this requirement;

##Design of Graphical User Interfaces for mobile devices In Javascript or Java Swing for the building of Java thick-client applications;

##Microsoft Windows platforms.

 

You will also have experience with the implementation of Information systems.

Practical experience in the following areas is desired:

##Software development based on the Smack XMPP framework v4.0 and above;

##Software development based on the Android SOK vr24 and above;

##Configuration Control to software releases/production;

##Using Integrated Development Environments and source code control tools;

##Working in a software development team;

##Writing technical documentation (requirements, design, and architecture) as related to the software development project.

Language skills:

Most of the work of the NCI Agency is conducted in English therefore a thorough knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is essential.

Eligibility Criteria

##Nationality: application is limited to nationals of NATO member nations.
##Qualification: you must be currently studying towards a university-level degree or be recent university graduates (degree obtained within the last 12 months).
##Language: you must be proficient in the use of the English language, both written and oral.

 

Compensation

 

You will be compensated at a fixed rate of €800 per month, based on 38 hours work per week. The Agency will also compensate travel expenses incurred upon taking up and returning to their home country upon completion of the internship (up to a maximum of €1000 in total).

 

Duration of Internship

 

In principle, internships will last between 3 to 10 months and may commence at any point during the calendar year.
