Description
:  

NCI Agency CIS Support Unit (CSU), located in Bydgoszcz (POL) is looking for a Network Technician to be responsible for Level II user support to include providing technical assistance to users beyond Service Desk capabilities for both hardware and software layers. If you have extensive experience in LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi technology, combined with ability to focus on customer needs and satisfaction, this post is for you!

 

Role responsibilities:

NCI Agency CIS Support Unit (CSU), located in Bydgoszcz (POL) enables end-to-end CIS services as it installs, operates, maintains and supports the full range of CIS capabilities during peacetime, crisis and war throughout its allocated Area of Responsibility (AOR) and as otherwise directed. CSU Bydgoszcz supports the CIS planning and execution of JFTC POW training events for up to hundreds of NATO participants.

 

As a Network Technician you will be assigned to Core Services Section that is responsible for all network administration,system administration, hardware and software support, setting up servers and subsequent system upgrades for servers and workstations.

On daily basis, your duties are: 

  • Be responsible for Level II user support to include providing technical assistance to users beyond Service Desk capabilities for both hardware and software layers.
  • Lead system provisioning support for core network elements inclusive Storage Area Networks, main IP switches, virtual server and client hardware, video matrix solutions and information exchange gateway hardware.
  • Maintain NATO security guidelines for all core services and supporting hardware/software.
  • Be responsible for documenting of site Core Services (both logical and physical) providing site surveys upon request and diagramming and detailing system/network components, operational integration and schema design.
  • Provide technical advice for system procurement and act as technical lead for future projects and exercise planning.
  • Work on own initiative with limited supervision, may lead others as required
  • Plan, manage, coordinate assigned resources and conducts work to meet quality targets
  • Take initiative to investigate and resolve technical issues in a systematic approach
  • Maintain sound knowledge on implemented technologies
  • Advise his/ her superiors and recommends technical solutions
  • Install, operate and maintain assigned ICT Platforms (Networking) and stay abreast of latest developments in these areas
  • Support the integrity of assigned ICT Platforms (Networking), support on IT Service Continuity Management (ITSCM), Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans
  • Maintain liaison with other CSU internal units, Service Lines and other technical organisations
  • Provide support related to local CIS Service provision during the execution phase
  • Implement procedures, tools and techniques for monitoring and managing the performance of ICT Platforms (Networking) and provide reports as required
  • Monitor and report the capacity of the assigned ICT Platforms (Networking)
  • Assist with and implements assigned project work packages.

You may be required to perform similar duties elsewhere within the organisation as directed.

Person specification

 

Qualifications required:

You will be required to demonstrate a vocational training at a higher technical level in a relevant discipline. A higher educational qualification but less practical experience or a less formal educational background combined with particularly relevant practical experience may also be acceptable.

 

Your education will be complemented by CISCO certifications, CCNA Certification, ITIL Foundation certification.

Preferably, you will also have:

  • CCNP or CCDP Certificate
  • MCSA or MCSE Certificate

Experience required:

 

In addition to at least 8 years in the areas of LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi technologies, you will be asked to demonstrate:

 

  • In-depth knowledge in network management, monitoring and statistics tools.
  • Broad and sound technical knowledge of IT Systems.
  • Practical experience in diagnosing deficiencies in networks and associated equipment (switch, router, firewall, access point, WI-FI controller).
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Layer-2 networks including Ethernet, STP, VLANs.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Layer-3 networks including IP, OSPF and MPLS.
  • Experience with Cisco, HP and Juniper routers, switches and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of other related protocols and solutions: DNS, AD, DHCP, QoS, SNMP, VPN, VRRP.
  • Knowledge of cabling media, industry standards and associated interfaces.
  • Experience in design, build and implementation of wireless networks.

Preferably, you will also have:

  • Broad and in-depth experience of the ITIL Service Management framework;
  • Project management experience;
  • Knowledge and experience of Configuration Control and IT Collaboration tools of the computer network standards.
  • Experience on IT systems virtualization and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
  • Experience with Microsoft Server Systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of SAN technologies.
  • Hardware troubleshooting experience.

Language skills:

 

A thorough knowledge of one of the two NATO languages, both written and spoken, is essential and some knowledge of the other is desirable.
NOTE:  Most of the work of the NCI Agency is conducted in the English language.
