Description
:  
NCI Agency is looking for a Technician to supervise the delivery of Operating Systems services within CSU Norfolk. Do you have experience in information systems engineering and maintenance, system management, and system administration?  Do you have excellent customer focus and ability to solve problems in a logical and methodical manner? Role responsibilities
 
Within CSU Norfolk, and under the direction of Section Head (AIS Core), you will perform duties such as the following:
  • Responsible for the system administration of assigned systems, which may include Active Directory, VMware server and Desktop virtualization, Windows Servers, Linux Servers, and System Centre Configuration Manager.
  • Analysis and implementation of user requirements ranging from creation of user accounts and customization of user profiles to system optimization to meet user or operation requirements.
  • Administration of data backup and restore functions.
  • Server and Client Hardware and Software troubleshooting, including Group Policy, DHCP, network and firewall issues, and system start up.  
  • Implementing and testing new software versions.
  • Providing assistance and system fault resolution to ADP Help Desk and systems users.
  • Providing assistance in installation, setup and debugging of servers, applications, and network devices.
  • Writing PowerShell commands and scripts to automate system administration tasks.
  • Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for routine system administration tasks.
  • Developing, maintaining and optimizing the hardware and software configuration for the assigned systems
  • Deputize for higher grade staff
  • Performs other duties as may be required.

Person specification

 

Qualifications required:

 

To perform those duties, you will need to have vocational training at a higher technical level in a relevant discipline, or equivalent on-the-job experience.

 

Preferably, you will provide us with evidence of maintaining knowledge of advances in IS engineering, and will have a  graduate diploma in an IS engineering related subject.

 

Experience required:

 

At least 5 years of experience in system administration of Windows Server systems on a client-server network.

 

Preferably, you will  have experience in system administration of heterogeneous networks including Linux and Windows systems, with a large user base and have experience working in a secure network environment, hardening system and following system administration security best practices.

Languages

 

Most of the work of the NCI Agency is conducted in the English language, and therefore a thorough knowledge of English,  both written and spoken, is essential and some knowledge of French is desirable.
